1930s silk tap shorts embroidered with ‘No No A Thousand Times No” c. 1935-1938. The label inside reads ‘Treasures of Paris’, and an identical pair can be found in the collection of The Philadelphia Museum of Art. The embroidery is a nod to a popular song from 1934, originally sung by Elsie Carlisle, and later covered by Mae Questel as Betty Boop for a Fleischer Brothers animated short of the same title.
