SUEDE SKIRT_ MAX MARA_ WEEKEND_ EARLY 2000s

A surprising wardrobe staple, day or night, mini, midi or maxi, find a leather skirt that’s forever and wear it with anything. From oversized shirts and loafers, to slim turtlenecks and boots.

I turn to the 1960s and 70s for soft suede styles, A-line cuts and mini skirts, or the 1980s for leather skirts with more of a rock n’ roll feel. If it’s sleek and minimal I’m after the 1990s is the decade to go to.

Brands to look for: Anne Klein, Bally, Chanel, Claude Montana, Coach, Gap, Gianfranco Ferre, Gucci, Hermès, Jil Sander, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Ralph Lauren, Thierry Mugler, Todd Oldham, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent.

Key decades: 1960s - early 2000s

Fabrics: Leather or Suede

Colors: Black, navy, tan, brown, burgundy, grey, white, cream.

Style notes: Know the length that suits you and let that be your starting point.
