THE COTTON DRESS
Everyone needs an easy cotton dress for the Summer months. The perfect cotton dress needs no accessories and should be something you can slip on with a simple Leather Sandal and step out into the sun.
Find one that you can throw on with ease, from feminine Antique, Edwardian and Victorian-era lace or Broderie Anglaise dresses, to 1970s and 1980s voluminous peasant styles from Laura Ashley to Yves Saint Laurent, or opts for an easy and minimal cotton slip dress from the 1990s from designers such as Prada or Calvin Klein. While the styles can vary, a cotton dress is my go-to on the hottest of days.
Brands to look for: Anne Klein, Calvin Klein, Celine, Chanel, Chloé, DKNY, Kenzo, Laura Ashley, Prada, Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent.
Key decades: Antique -1930s, 1970s-1990s
Fabrics: Cotton, Broderie Anglaise, Lace, Eyelet.
Colors: White, neutrals, black or timeless prints like florals and stripes.
Style notes: If you want to adjust the length of a vintage dress but it has embroidery or details at the hem, have it taken up from the waist or chest seam when possible.
